Should I fear? With everything happening today, this may be a question you are asking yourself. We live in a time where sickness is taking lives, livelihoods, freedoms, and so much more. We don’t know for sure that tomorrow will not bring turmoil that could change our lives. It makes sense for us to be worried and fearful, right?
According to God’s word, the answer to that question is no. In Isaiah 8, God tells the Israelites; to not fear what other people fear and not dread what others dread (Isaiah 8:12). It is not his will for his people to be living in fear. He did not give us a spirit of fear but one of power, love, and self-control. The Bible tells us 365 times to not fear; therefore, it is not the will of God that we fear. Here are a few reasons why Christians shouldn’t be afraid or worried.
You do not have to Fear Because the Power of God is inside of You
We have a power inside of us. The power to stand up against the darkness, rebuke sickness; claim financial victory, endure hardship, and to pray for others.
This power lays dormant inside most Christians and waits for them to realize it is there. It is not our power but the power of the spirit of God who dwells inside of us. We can use the power of God by speaking his word over a situation and standing firm.
Jesus tells us that if anyone says to this mountain be thou removed and does not doubt in his heart, he will have the things that he says (Mark 11:23). The power of God is in our tongues.
You Do Not have to fear Because God is Our Help
Psalm 46:1 tells us that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. When we see all the trouble around us, we can be confident that God is our help. Even if we find ourselves in a position where we must choose between our convictions or our career we can rest in the assurance that God will help us.
Whether he helps us by finding us a new job or providing for us in other ways, he will not abandon us. God wants his people to start to trust him; instead of what they see around them. He also wants us to rely on him.
God is the one who empowers us to gain wealth(Deuteronomy 8:18), the one who protects us from diseases (Psalm 91:10), and the one who feeds and clothes us (Mattew 6:26-28). He is our source of everything we need. If the world begins to crumble around, us it doesn’t matter because our supply does not come from the world but from God.
You Do Not Have to Fear Because Our Trust isn’t in Man
Isaiah also tells us that our trust should not be put in man. Our trust should not be in our governing officials, newscasters, or healthcare providers. God’s authority is more powerful than all those figures.
Just because something scary may be called for on the news, like a new variant or mandate, does not mean that you must be affected by it.
Be careful not to speak it over your life, but even if it does end up affecting you, God will counteract the evil done to you with a blessing. If you lose your job, expect a better one with a bonus. If you must follow a mandate that affects your business and profits, then expect that money returned to you.
Cling to the promise that although weeping may endure for the night joy, comes in the morning. Joy is promised after pain if we cling to the promises of God.
In Closing
It is not the will of God that we fear as non-believers do. We have his spirit inside us and all of the power that comes with that fact. Therefore, we must be careful what we allow into our minds and out of our mouths.
Protect yourself against watching too much news during this time. And keep a watch over what you are speaking about to others. Be proactive about filling yourself with the word of God so you can speak his truth over the darkness surrounding us. And remember that God is our present help in times of trouble; therefore, we do not need to fear.
