I was opening a new package of frozen whipped cream for my coffee this morning when I noticed a red line on the plastic indicating its weak spot. The package was made so the consumer could easily rip off the plastic at the designated line.
Likewise, we all have weak spots where if we are not careful, satan can begin to tear at us. The Bible warns us in 1 Peter 5:8 that our enemy, the devil, is always prowling about like a lion seeking whom he may devour.
Like a lion on the hunt, he sniffs out the scent of our weaknesses’ so he can use them against us. This is why Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:11 to put on the armor of God so that we can take a stand against the devil’s schemes. When we clothe ourselves in the armor of God, we can fight back against shame, temptation, fear, and condemnation.
The way we put on the armor of God is by spending time in the presence of God and studying the word. If we are not actively meditating and studying the word of God, we will not be prepared when the fight comes. Truly everything the devil speaks against us; we have an opposing promise in the Bible. Here are a few examples:
Condemnation
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1
For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more. Hebrews 8:12
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. John 3:18
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corninthains 5:17
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1
Fear
Though an army encamps against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arises against me, yet I will be confident. Psalm 27:3
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41: 10
Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Matthew 10:31
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7
Sickness
Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—the Most High, who is my refuge—no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. Psalm 91:10
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds, we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise. Jeremiah 17:14
And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict on you, but he will lay them on all who hate you. Deuteronomy 7:15
Temptation
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41
Closing Thoughts
Jesus gave us the example of using the word against satan when the devil tempted him in the desert. Satan found his supposed weaknesses and tried to use them against him, but Jesus spoke the word against Satan and commanded him to leave.
Likewise, when satan tries to throw your past sin in your face or remind you that everyone in your family has died of sickness, turn to the word and speak God’s truth against his lies. We have power and authority over the devil, but we must take it. We must stand on the truth of God’s word and refuse to believe his lies.
Also remember that God sees your weaknesses, fears, and past sins just as clearly as the devil does. Instead of throwing them in your face, God says give them to me and let them go. Trust what his word says about them and stand firm on what he has promised you.
