“To step out of my comfort zone and into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is, and he is holding out his hand” Casting Crowns, The Voice of Truth.
Comfort? Yes, please!
Anything unknown is scary. I desire security, assurance, facts, and a sound plan. Being asked “to step out of my comfort zone into the realm of the unknown” can be discomforting. I am a lover of comfort. I sleep with a fleece blanket year-round, two to three pillows, and a comforter. There will also always be a blanket in my Papasan chair to wrap up in despite the temperature. I find jobs where I feel safe and comfortable, and I stick around for as long as possible. I am not a fan of change. But I believe being uncomfortable is the point of being called out.
What is that comfort costing us?
When we are okay with living a comfortable and secure life, we lose sight of Jesus. He is still holding out his hand, but we are buried so far underneath our security blanket that we can’t see him bidding us come out to the deep where he will be our source and security. God did not intend for us to become comfortable with this world, but that is what we have done. We live defeated lives like; non-Christians, filled with anxiety, financial issues, sickness, and fear. All because we live like the spiritual world is an afterthought and only trust in things we can see.
Faith and not Sight
The realm of the unknown is living by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). According to what we know in the physical world, Peter should not have been able to walk on water. You wouldn’t believe your friend if they told you today that they had walked on water; because it defies logic. But that is what Peter did. He stepped out of the solidness of the boat and walked on the uneasiness of the waves. God is calling us to live the same way. To stop placing our security on what we deem as solid. But to step into the spiritual where we believe for “impossible” things and live an “uncomfortable” life.

It’s hard to not embrace the things we are afraid of because of our comfort zones. Nice post!

I totally agree, we weren’t meant to be comfortable. A life lived for the Lord requires walking in faithful obedience, no matter what God calls you to. Thanks for the encouragement!

Faith to me is trusting God even when the dots don’t connect. The Lord puts our promises in our reach not in our hand. We have to move by faith to get the promises. I know what you mean about change. I was paralyzed by change for years but thank God I let go. I actually wrote about it in a post on my blog about moving to Houston.

This blog is very timely for me. I struggle with stepping out of my comfort zone these past few days. Thank you for making me realize that a comfort zone is indeed a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there. x
