As Christians, we can become too comfortable waiting for God to move. When God is waiting for us to be obedient. What if God led; faith-based action is key to our victory? It is time to start looking for places to step out in faith and stop only praying and waiting.
Faith because of Relationship
Imagine if David believed that he would defeat Goliath, but made no effort to defeat him. Instead, David went out and found five smooth stones, grabbed his slingshot, and became an instrument for the Lord toward the defeat of Goliath. The victory came from action.
We know from scripture that David was a man after God’s own heart. David spent time with the Lord and had a relationship with him; He worshiped him with psalms; and trusted him completely. He made the Lord his resting place. The reason David could so readily face Goliath was because of his firm relationship with God. God is all-powerful and could have smitten Goliath down immediately when he started insulting his children. Instead, he used David, someone who others wouldn’t have chosen, to carry out the defeat of a giant.
Your Victory Requires Action
You have been chosen for your victory, but there is action from you that is needed. We must take care; however, to rely not on our human intuition. But to draw closer to God so that we can see our part in the battle plan. Leaning not on our understanding is still crucial here.
We are not the one who plans the battle, but we are merely the soldiers who are used to carrying out the plan. David had to face a giant with five stones and a slingshot. He was not in charge of the stone hitting its mark, but he was the one in control of slinging the slingshot.
It’s Time to Move
In Exodus, Moses tells the Israelites that the Lord will fight for them they need only to be still (Exodus14:14). We could take this verse out of context and could take it to mean that we are to wait for the Lord to move, but the rest of the chapter continues with this “Then the Lord said to Moses. Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on the dry ground.” Exodus 14:15-16.
In the previous chapter, we see that God was guiding the Israelites by a pillar of cloud. God was already leading them toward the sea. The Israelites did not follow their own course but followed the leading of God instead.
But, now they had to take action and walk into the sea. God was fighting their battle, but they still had to move forward into the heart of the sea before God would take care of the Egyptians. Again God could have taken out Pharaoh’s entire army the second they began to pursue the Israelites, but he chose not to. He wanted faith-based action from his children first.
I encourage you today not to get comfortable just waiting for God to move. But rest in his presence, seek his face, and follow his leading. Because when the time for your victory arrives there will be a time when you will be called into action. And when that time comes, act. Throw your stone at your giant. Walkout, in the middle of the sea. Take faith-based action and quit just complacently waiting for God to wipe it all away. He can, and he will. But not without some faith-based action.
